Barrie Speedway Track Facts:

Barrie Speedway was built by three partners, Jerry Watson, Dan Kenney and Mel Sinclair. Jerry, a racer himself, raced at Pinecrest Speedway for many years and decided to build this new racing facility in Oro, just North of Barrie, Ontario.

Barrie Speedway opened in 1965 and closed for good in 2015! Barrie Speedway went through a major reconstruction in preparation for the 2005 racing season. There was a dogleg built into the backchute to allow enough space for a pit road. The track was enlarged to a 1/3 mile oval at this time.

There were a few name changes over the years;

  • Barrie Speedway
  • Twin Cities Speedway
  • Motorplex Park
  • Barrie Speedway 2000

The first night of racing saw many different winners;

  • Cecil Gray – First Heat Winner
  • Joan Howard – First Powder Puff Winner
  • George Segriff – First Consi Winner
  • Cecil Gray – Trophy Dash Winner
  • John Shirtliff – First Semi Winner
  • Don Hastie – Last Chance Winner
  • Lloyd Howard – First Feature Winner
